Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Moises de la Renta. His name, it sounds all fancy-like, don’t it? Kinda like one of them soap operas my granddaughter watches. But this ain’t no soap opera, this is real life, or as real as them fashion folks get, I reckon.

See, his daddy, Oscar de la Renta, he was a big shot in the dress-makin’ business. Made all sorts of fancy clothes for them highfalutin ladies, the kind that go to parties and get their pictures in the magazines. Rich folks, you know? The kind that wouldn’t know a hard day’s work if it slapped ’em in the face.

Now, Moises, he’s followin’ in his daddy’s footsteps, kinda like how my boy followed me into farmin’, ‘cept instead of plantin’ corn, he’s plantin’… well, I guess he’s plantin’ fancy dresses and such. He’s got his own line of clothes, they call it MDLR. Sounds like a bunch of letters to me, but I guess that’s how they do things in the city.

They say Moises, he’s got the same fire in his belly for this fashion stuff as his daddy did. He’s workin’ hard, designin’ things, talkin’ to folks, even got himself mixed up with some hotel and makin’ dresses and fancy drinks for somethin’ called Fashion Week. Can ya believe it? A whole week just for clothes! Back in my day, you wore what you had, and you were thankful for it.

  • He’s done dressed up the president’s wife, ain’t that somethin’?
  • And he’s workin’ with them big stores, like Mango, makin’ clothes for regular folks too, or so they say. Regular folks who can afford fancy store clothes, I guess.
  • They even say he’s kinda like an important guy for that little island his daddy came from, where they grow all them fancy coffee beans, you know? Dominican… somethin’ or other.

He even went and talked to his own daddy for some website thingy he was doin’. Imagine that, interviewin’ your own kin! I guess that’s how they do things when you’re in the fashion business. Always gotta be sellin’ somethin’, I reckon.

Now, they say his daddy, Oscar, he made clothes for all sorts of famous women, actresses and such. Folks with names you couldn’t even pronounce if you tried. He was a big deal, that Oscar. And Moises, he’s tryin’ to be a big deal too, I guess. He’s got a lot to live up to, that’s for sure.

They even said his daddy designed for some fancy French place, Bal… somethin’. First fella from that island place to do that, they said. Big accomplishment, I guess. Me, I was just happy to get the crops in on time.

Moises, he’s got his own style, though. They say he’s passionate, just like his daddy. He’s got his own ideas, his own way of doin’ things. He’s not just tryin’ to be his daddy, he’s tryin’ to be himself. And that’s important, no matter what you do in life, whether you’re farmin’ or makin’ fancy dresses.

So, there ya have it. That’s the story of Moises de la Renta, as best as I can tell it. He’s a young fella, makin’ his way in the world, tryin’ to live up to his daddy’s name and make a name for himself. It ain’t easy, I tell ya, no matter what kind of work you do. But if he’s got that fire in his belly like they say, he’ll do just fine.

And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even see one of his dresses in the Sears catalog, though I doubt it. Them city clothes ain’t made for workin’ in the fields, that’s for sure.

Anyway, that’s all I got to say about Moises. He seems like a nice enough young fella, even if he does make clothes for folks who probably never got their hands dirty in their lives.
