Alright, listen up, y’all. Let me tell ya ’bout this… uh… this hotel, yeah, a hotel. Fancy name, somethin’ like “hotel mercy-argenteau”. Sounds like a place them city folks go to, spendin’ money they ain’t got, probably.

So, I heard tell this hotel, it’s supposed to be real nice. Like, real, real nice. Not like that dusty motel down the highway where the truckers stop, oh no. This one’s got… what they call ’em… “amenities”. Yeah, that’s it. Sounds like somethin’ you’d put on a rash, but I guess it means they got fancy stuff. Like, maybe a pool. You know, one of them holes in the ground filled with water? Not the kind we got back home, full of frogs and whatnot. This one’s probably clean, for all them city folks to splash around in. Heck, they probably got towels bigger’n my whole darn apron!
And the rooms! Oh, I bet the rooms are somethin’ else. Not like my little ol’ bedroom with the quilt my grandma made. Naw, these rooms probably got beds as big as a cornfield and fluffy pillows you could sink into. Maybe even one of them… whatchamacallits… “televisions”? Yeah, them boxes that show ya pictures of people you don’t know doin’ things you don’t care about. But hey, it’s fancy, right? And they probably got them fancy bathrooms, too. Not like my outhouse, that’s for sure. These city folk, they need their indoor plumbin’, hot water whenever they want it. Spoiled, I tell ya, spoiled rotten.
But you know, this “hotel mercy-argenteau” ain’t just about sleepin’ and bathin’. They got other stuff too. Like, food. Now, I can cook up a mean pot of stew, let me tell ya. But these folks, they got “chefs.” Yeah, them fancy cooks with their tall hats and their tiny little portions. Bet you don’t get no seconds neither. And the food, it ain’t just grits and cornbread. It’s got names you can’t even pronounce. “Filet somethin’-somethin’,” “Escargot,” somethin’ that sounds like a snail. I’d stick to my stew if it were me. But hey, that’s just me. They say that food is part of the “experience.” Another fancy word they like to throw around.
- Sleepin’ like a king (or queen): Big beds, soft pillows, clean sheets. What more could ya want? ‘Cept maybe a good book and a glass of sweet tea.
- Eatin’ fancy grub: Them chefs cook up all sorts of things. Maybe you’ll like it, maybe you won’t. But it’ll sure look pretty on your plate.
- Splashin’ around in the water: Pools, hot tubs, whatever they got. Good for wastin’ time and gettin’ wrinkly fingers.
And get this, they probably got people to do everything for ya. Carry your bags, bring you drinks, clean up after you. Like you’re some kind of royalty. Heck, back home, you gotta do everything yourself. But these city folk, they pay good money to have other people do the work. Guess that’s what they call “luxury.” I call it lazy, but who am I to judge? They probably call it “relaxation.” Same thing, different words, I reckon.
So, this “hotel mercy-argenteau,” it’s a place for relaxin’ and spendin’ all your hard-earned cash, I s’pose. It’s for folks who wanna get away from it all and be pampered. Not for the likes of me, that’s for sure. I’m happy with my little house and my garden, thank you very much. But if you got the money and you wanna feel like a king or queen for a few days, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to check it out. Just don’t forget where you come from, y’hear?

Findin’ a good hotel ain’t always easy, though. You gotta look around, compare prices, read them reviews. And even then, you don’t always know what you’re gonna get. It’s a gamble, like plantin’ seeds in the spring. Sometimes you get a good harvest, sometimes you just get weeds. But that’s life, ain’t it? You just gotta take a chance and see what happens. And if you do end up at that “hotel mercy-argenteau”, well, send me a postcard, will ya? Let me know if it’s all it’s cracked up to be.
Now, I gotta go feed them chickens. They ain’t gonna wait for nobody, even if I am talkin’ ’bout fancy hotels. They just care about their next meal. Just like the rest of us, I guess.
