Back in my day, you wore a suit to church, to a wedding, or maybe a funeral. And shorts? Well, shorts were for working in the garden or chasing chickens.
But these city folks, they’re mixing it all up! They wear these fancy blazers – you know, those jacket things with the buttons – and then they pair ’em with shorts! Shorts that show off their knees! I swear, I’ve seen it all now.
Are These Suits Comfy, Though?
One thing I always wonder about is the comfort. I mean, are those shorts comfy? Do they ride up when you walk? Do you get cold in the air conditioning? And what about the shoes? What kind of shoes do you wear with a suit and shorts? Sandals? Sneakers? High heels? It’s all so confusing!
And another thing, what about the weather? You can’t be wearing shorts in the winter, can ya? Unless you want to catch your death of cold. Maybe this suit-and-shorts thing is just for the summer, I don’t know. It’s all too much for my old brain to handle.

And they come in all sorts of fabrics too – linen, cotton, even leather! Can you imagine wearing leather shorts in the summer heat? I’d be sweatin’ like a pig!
- The Colors: Seems like anything goes these days. You got your neutral tones – your beiges and grays and browns. But you also got your bright colors – your pinks and yellows and blues. And some folks even mix and match, wearin’ a bright blazer with neutral shorts, or vice versa. It’s a whole lotta lookin’ if you ask me.
Is it Casual Chic or Just Plain Silly?
They call it “casual chic,” I think. Which means, I guess, that it’s supposed to be fancy but also relaxed. But to me, it just looks like someone couldn’t decide whether to dress up or dress down. Like they were running late and grabbed the first things they could find in their closet.
I’ve heard ‘em sayin’ coordinated sets are in, too. That’s when the shorts and the blazer are made of the same material and matchy-matchy. Sometimes I see these youngsters wearin’ clothes that look too big on ‘em – oversized outfits, that’s what they call it. I don’t get it, but who am I to judge?
But hey, what do I know? Maybe I’m just old-fashioned. Maybe this suit-with-shorts thing is the next big trend. Maybe everyone will be wearin’ it next year. Who knows? Fashion is a funny thing, it changes faster than the weather. One minute it’s all about long skirts and the next it’s all about showing your knees.
I guess if you’re young and slim, you can get away with pretty much anything. But for an old gal like me? I’ll stick to my comfy dresses and sensible shoes. You won’t catch me wearin’ no suit with shorts, that’s for sure!

So, there you have it. My two cents on this whole suit-with-shorts phenomenon. It’s not for me, but hey, if you like it, go for it. Life’s too short to worry about what other people think, right? Just make sure you’re comfortable, and you feel good in what you’re wearin’. And if you happen to see an old lady starin’ at you on the street, don’t mind me. I’m just tryin’ to figure out what in the world is goin’ on!
And for goodness sake, make sure them shorts ain’t too short! Nobody wants to see more than they bargained for, you know what I mean?
