Alright, so listen up, y’all. Gonna tell ya ’bout this here… what they call it… “WNBA Orange Carpet.” Sounds fancy, huh? Don’t know much ’bout fancy, but I reckon it’s somethin’ like when the church ladies roll out that red carpet for the preacher’s picnic, only orange, I guess.
So, they got this WNBA, right? Women playin’ basketball. Good for them, I say. Strong gals, runnin’ and jumpin’. Reminds me of when I used to chase them chickens ’round the yard. Them chickens were fast, I tell ya. But these ladies, they’re somethin’ else. They got their own… league, they call it. And this “Orange Carpet,” well, it’s like a big ol’ show before the games start, I figure.
This Bumble thing, I hear they’re helpin’ out. Don’t know what a Bumble is, sounds like a bee to me, but if they’re helpin’ them girls, that’s good enough for me. They’re showin’ it all on that YouTube thingy and the WNBA app. My grandson, he’s always on that phone of his, watchin’ videos. Maybe he’ll show me how to watch these basketball ladies on the “You-Tube”.
They got these folks called stylists now. Stylists, can you believe it? Back in my day, we just put on whatever was clean and didn’t have too many holes in it. But these stylists, they dress up them basketball players. Make ‘em look all spiffy and such. This one fella, Amadi Brooks, he says the “bar has been raised.” Sounds like he’s talkin’ about puttin’ up more shelves in the pantry, but I guess he means the ladies gotta look better each year. Like my prize-winning zucchini, always gotta be bigger and better than last year’s.
- They got this A’ja Wilson girl. Sounds like a strong name, like she could chop wood all day.
- And Sydney Colson, Jackie Young, and Allisha Gray. Lots of names to remember, I tell ya. Back in my day, everyone was just Mary or John.
They’re talkin’ ’bout an “expansion draft” too. Sounds like when the army needs more soldiers, but I guess it’s for this new Golden State Valkyries team. Valkyries? Sounds like somethin’ out of a fairy tale. But hey, if they can play basketball, good for them. They’re gonna be pickin’ new players, seems like.
And then there’s this All-Star game. All the best players gettin’ together. That’s in Phoenix, Arizona. Hot place, Arizona. Reminds me of when we had that heatwave back in ‘76. Lordy, that was somethin’ else. Gotta drink lots of water in that heat, I tell ya. Don’t want them basketball gals gettin’ all dried up like prunes.
So, this Orange Carpet thing, it’s a big deal, I guess. All the ladies dressed up, lookin’ fancy. People watchin’ on their phones and such. It’s a whole new world, I tell ya. But at the end of the day, it’s just basketball. Runnin’, jumpin’, throwin’ that ball. Just like when we used to play hoops with a peach basket nailed to the barn. Only these gals are a whole lot better at it, that’s for sure.
The 28th season, they say. That’s a lot of seasons. Means these gals have been playin’ for a long time. Good for them, workin’ hard and makin’ somethin’ of themselves. Reminds me of when I used to work in the fields, sun up to sun down. Hard work never hurt nobody, that’s what I always say.
And this Lexie Brown and Hannah O’Flynn, they’re the ones talkin’ on the TV, I think. Or maybe it’s that “You-Tube”. Like them fellas on the radio, always chatterin’ away. Keeps folks entertained, I reckon. So, that’s the gist of it, this WNBA Orange Carpet thing. Fancy clothes, basketball ladies, and a whole lotta hoopla. More than I can rightly understand, but seems like folks enjoy it, and that’s all that matters.
