Alright, alright, let’s talk about them… mens suit with shorts, you know, the kind them city fellas wear sometimes. I saw one on TV the other day, looked plumb silly, like a rooster with its tail feathers plucked. But then again, what do I know? I’m just an old woman who ain’t never seen nothin’ fancier than a Sunday church suit.
First off, what in tarnation is a “suit with shorts” anyway? Seems like two different things mashed together. Like putting gravy on ice cream, just don’t make no sense. A suit is supposed to be all proper and long, you know, for important stuff like weddings and funerals. Shorts are for…well, for sweating and working in the garden, or maybe for them young fellas who like to run around like their pants caught fire.
Now, I hear tell these here shorts suits are for summertime, when it gets hotter than a pepper sprout. And I guess that makes a lick of sense. Nobody wants to be sweltering in wool pants when the sun’s beatin’ down. But still, I can’t help but think it looks a bit…unfinished. Like the fella forgot half his clothes or somethin’. You got the jacket, all buttoned up and proper, and then BAM! Bare legs. It just ain’t right.
- Material Matters, I Reckon: If you’re gonna wear these things, at least make sure they’re made of somethin’ nice. Not that cheap, shiny stuff that sticks to you like a burr on a dog. Cotton, maybe? Or linen? Somethin’ that lets the air circulate, so you don’t get all hot and bothered.
- Colors and Patterns: I seen some of these suits in bright colors, like lemon yellow and sky blue. And some with stripes and checks and all sorts of craziness. If you’re gonna wear shorts with a suit, I reckon you gotta keep it simple. Stick to plain colors, like navy or gray or maybe a nice tan. Don’t want to look like a runaway circus clown.
- Shoes and Socks (or lack thereof): Now, this is where it gets tricky. What kind of shoes do you wear with a shorts suit? Boots seem too heavy, sneakers seem too casual. Maybe loafers? And socks? Do you wear socks with shorts? I ain’t got a clue. Some fellas I see wear them little no-show socks, so it looks like they ain’t got no socks on at all. Seems kinda sneaky to me.
And another thing, where would you even wear a mens suit with shorts? Can’t wear it to church, that’s for sure. The preacher would have a conniption fit. Maybe to a fancy picnic? Or a summer garden party? I don’t know, I ain’t never been to one of them fancy shindigs. Seems like it’s only for them fellas who work in offices but wanna pretend they’re on vacation.
I suppose if a fella wants to wear shorts with a suit, that’s his business. It ain’t hurtin’ nobody, I reckon. But I still think it looks a bit…peculiar. Like a dog walkin’ on its hind legs. It can be done, but it don’t look natural. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned. Maybe I’m stuck in my ways. But I like my suits long and my shorts short, and I don’t see no need to mix ‘em up.
But hey, the world’s changin’, ain’t it? Folks wearin’ all sorts of strange things these days. Ripped jeans, shoes that light up, hats with propellers on ’em. So maybe these shorts suits ain’t so bad after all. Maybe they’re the future of fashion. Or maybe they’re just a fad that’ll disappear faster than a June bug in a chicken coop. Only time will tell, I suppose.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ yourself a mens suit with shorts, here’s my advice: Try it on first. Make sure it fits right. And don’t go buyin’ somethin’ too crazy. Stick to the basics. And for goodness sake, wear a decent pair of shoes. And maybe, just maybe, skip the socks altogether. That way, at least you won’t look like you got dressed in the dark.
And one more thing, don’t you go thinkin’ that just because you’re wearin’ a suit, even if it’s got shorts, that makes you better than anybody else. A suit don’t make the man, it’s what’s inside that counts. You can be dressed in rags and still be a good, honest person. And you can be dressed in the finest suit with shorts and still be a no-good scoundrel. So remember that, and don’t let them fancy clothes go to your head.
Now, I’ve said my piece. Whether you wear a mens suit with shorts or not, that’s your business. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if folks stare at you funny. You’ve been warned. And if you do decide to wear one, make sure you look presentable. Comb your hair, brush your teeth, and stand up straight. Even shorts suits deserve a little bit of respect. After all, somebody went to the trouble of makin’ ‘em, and somebody went to the trouble of buyin’ ‘em. So, you might as well wear ‘em with a little bit of pride, even if you do look a bit like a rooster with its tail feathers plucked.
At the end of the day, clothes are just clothes. They keep you warm, they keep you covered, and sometimes, they make you feel good. If a mens suit with shorts does all that for you, then go for it. Just don’t expect me to understand it. I’ll stick to my overalls and my Sunday dress, thank you very much.
