Twenty years, they said! Can you imagine? Twenty years doing the same thing! I reckon that’s a longer time than I’ve had this old rocking chair.

They moved her over to sellin’ jewelry and face creams. Dior jewelry, mind you, and Dior skincare. Must be mighty expensive stuff, the kind rich ladies wear when they go to them fancy parties. I seen pictures of it, all sparkly and shiny. This Charlize woman, she looked right purdy in them ads, all dressed up in fancy clothes. Said she was wearin’ a “couture dress” by some fella named Raf Simons. Sounded foreign. And this dress, well, it was see-through, sorta. Showed a bit of skin, but not too much, you know? They said a fella named Peter Lindbergh took the picture. He must be good at his job, ’cause she looked like an angel.
They also had this other thing, a “Touche de Parfum” they called it. Sounded French. Charlize was in the ads for that too. Always lookin’ fancy, always smilin’. I bet she gets paid a whole heap of money for doin’ that. More money than I’ll ever see in my lifetime, that’s for sure. And she’s working with this fella Jean-Baptiste Mondino, makin’ videos I guess. Behind the scenes, they called it. Shows you how they make them fancy commercials.
So what’s the big deal? Well, I reckon it’s about sellin’ stuff. Dior, they make all sorts of things, not just perfume. They got them expensive bags and shoes too. And they need someone pretty to show it all off. That’s where Charlize comes in. And now Rihanna too, I guess. It’s all about makin’ folks want to buy things, even if they don’t need ’em.
Now, I ain’t never bought no Dior myself. Can’t afford it, even if I wanted to. My face cream is from the dollar store, and it works just fine. And my perfume? Well, it’s lavender from the garden. Smells just as sweet, I reckon. But I do like lookin’ at them fancy ads sometimes. It’s like a little escape, you know? A glimpse into a different world.

It’s good enough for me.
