Oh, that Miss USA thing, I heard it again on the radio! They all pretty girls, walking around in their swimsuits. Skinny, some not so skinny. They are brave, showing off their bodies like that. I remember I was young and slim, but I never dared to wear that swimsuit.
They say this thing, it’s called “Miss USA pageant,” I think. All them girls from different places, wanting to be the prettiest. They walk around, smile big. They wear those sparkly dresses, too, but it’s the swimsuits people talk about.
Swimsuit Part Is Most Important?
These girls, they work hard, I guess. Eating right, doing exercise. My old bones couldn’t do that now. They say it’s about being healthy, fit. Back in my day, we worked in the fields, that kept us fit! Didn’t need no fancy swimsuit to show it off, neither.
But these girls today, they like it. They want to show off what they got. It’s a different time, I reckon. I don’t think they are bad. Just different, and it is very interesting. Miss USA pageant swimsuit, that’s the big thing, I heard.
They stopped doing it for Miss America pageant. They said it is not good, but this Miss USA pageant, they still have the girls walk in their swimsuits. I do not know, but they need to be strong to show their bodies.
Being Pretty and Confident
Some people say it’s not right, showing off your body like that. Says it’s not what a lady should do. But I see them girls, they look happy. They seem proud. Maybe it’s about being confident, I don’t know. This word, “confident,” they say it a lot on the TV.
It’s not just about the swimsuit, I think. It’s about how you carry yourself. Like when you walk into a room, head held high, even if you’re nervous inside. These girls, they gotta do that, but in front of everyone, wearing just a little swimsuit!

- They gotta be confident.
I guess it takes a lot to be in that Miss USA pageant. You gotta be more than just pretty. You gotta have something inside, some kind of fire. And you gotta be okay with everyone looking at you, judging you, even in your swimsuit.
In my time, if a girl wants to be the beauty, she needs to work in field. She needs to cook good food. But now, these young girls, they only need to wear swimsuit. This world changes a lot.
Different Times, Different Ways
I remember once, my grandson showed me a picture of one of these Miss USA girls. She was wearing a swimsuit, all sparkly and colorful. I thought to myself, “That’s a lot of skin!” But she looked happy. She looked like she was having fun. And I guess that’s what matters, right?
It’s not for me to say what’s right or wrong. These girls, they choose to do this. They choose to put on that swimsuit and walk in front of all those people. It takes guts, I’ll give them that. And maybe it’s not so bad after all. Maybe it’s just a different way of showing you’re strong and confident. And this Miss USA pageant swimsuit, maybe is a good thing.
I still think it’s a bit much, all that parading around in swimsuits. But who am I to judge? I’m just an old woman, I don’t know much about these things. All I know is, those girls are brave. And they seem to enjoy it. And maybe, just maybe, that Miss USA pageant swimsuit thing isn’t so bad after all.
