Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with brooches lately, trying to figure out the best way to wear them. It’s not as easy as it looks, you know? I mean, you want it to look good, not just like you slapped it on and called it a day.

First off, I tried pinning one to my jacket lapel. It is the most basic and simple way. It is said that this is the most popular place, so, I tried many times to wear different types of brooches and pins on my lapel. It turned out to be an extremely versatile place where brooches of any type, size, or color can be worn. I tried several times to put three brooches on one of my wide lapels, and it looked unexpectedly harmonious and interesting. Of course, they must be related to each other in terms of style, color, and material.

Then I started experimenting with placement. I learned that if you can, try to make the pin on the brooch totally straight up and down. I tried to keep the pin as vertical as possible. Why? Well, apparently, it helps stop it from snagging on stuff and keeps the weight distributed better, so it doesn’t pull on your clothes as much. I tried it on a few different shirts and jackets, and yeah, it actually made a difference. But it doesn’t always work to put it perfectly vertical, for example, on a curved collar. Then I tried to tilt it a bit.

When you can’t get it totally vertical, I found that angling it works too. Just make sure the top part is leaning a bit towards your shoulder, and the bottom part is closer to your heart. I tested this out by pinning a heavier brooch on a blouse, and it didn’t droop as much when I angled it like that.

I also played around with wearing multiple brooches at once. I read somewhere that odd numbers work best, like three or five, but I just went with three because, honestly, five seemed like a lot. Anyway, I tried grouping three smaller, related brooches together on one lapel, and it actually looked pretty cool! I think the key is to make sure they complement each other, you know, like maybe they’re all the same color or have a similar theme. For example, I tried to put 3 brooches with flower elements together and it worked very well.

Here’s what I learned from my little brooch experiment:

  • Lapel is King (or Queen): Seriously, it’s the most versatile spot. Big brooches, small brooches, sparkly brooches, plain brooches – they all work on a lapel.
  • Go Vertical (If You Can): It really does help with the snagging and the weight distribution. I noticed a big difference when I started doing this.
  • Angle It Out: When vertical isn’t an option, tilt that brooch! Top towards the shoulder, bottom towards the heart. It helps, trust me.
  • Odd Numbers Rule: If you’re going for multiple brooches, stick with three or five. It just looks more balanced.
  • Matchy-Matchy: Make sure your brooches have something in common if you’re wearing more than one. Same color, same style, whatever – just make sure they go together.
  • Express Yourself: There are many ways to wear brooches. Let your imagination go wild and make them a part of your outfit.

So yeah, that’s my brooch adventure so far. I’m no expert, but I definitely learned a few things. Hopefully, my little experiment helps you out if you’re trying to figure out how to rock a brooch! It’s all about experimenting and finding what works for you, just do it!
