So, the other day, I decided to dive into the whole “American Psycho” vibe for a costume party. I mean, who hasn’t seen that movie and thought, “Damn, Patrick Bateman’s got style, even if he’s, you know, a total psycho?”

First things first, I had to get the basics down. I hit up my closet and found a classic black two-piece suit. Luckily, I had one from a friend’s wedding last year. I paired it with a crisp, white dress shirt – ironed it and everything, to get that sharp look. Then, I grabbed a red necktie I had lying around. Honestly, finding the tie was the easiest part.
But the suit and tie alone weren’t enough. I needed those little details to really nail the Bateman look. I borrowed a two-toned watch from my dad – the kind that screams “80s Wall Street.”
The hair, though… that was a challenge. I’m not exactly known for my hair-styling skills. But I watched a few YouTube videos, grabbed some mousse, and went to town. I think I managed to get that slicked-back, perfectly-coiffed look down after, like, an hour of struggling.
Then, for a bit of fun, I got a toy axe online. I know, I know, it’s a bit much, but I figured, why not go all out? Plus, it made for some hilarious photos.
Putting it all together, I have to say, I looked the part. It was a bit eerie, to be honest, seeing myself in the mirror. Like, I could almost hear Bateman’s inner monologue about Huey Lewis and the News.

The Whole Look
- Suit: Black, two-piece, and classic.
- Shirt: White, dress, and sharp.
- Tie: Red.
- Watch: Two-toned and flashy.
- Hair: Slicked-back and perfectly styled.
- Accessory: A toy axe, just for kicks.
All in all, it was a fun experiment. I got a lot of compliments on the outfit, and a few concerned looks, too. But hey, that’s the price you pay for embodying one of the most iconic characters in movie history, right? It just shows the worst extreme of masculinity.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to return some videotapes.
