You know, that Coco Gauff, she’s a big shot now. Playing that tennis, all over the TV. And she’s always got them headphones on. Big ones, too. Not like the little ones my grandson uses. She’s a good girl, that Coco. Reminds me of my granddaughter, always listenin’ to somethin’ on them contraptions.
They say she uses them headphones to block out the noise. All them people yellin’ and screamin’. Can’t blame her. I wouldn’t want all that racket in my ears either. Gotta focus, you know? Like when I’m countin’ my chickens. One peep outta line and I lose track. Same thing, I reckon.
She listens to that music, loud as can be. They say it helps her get ready for the game. Gets her blood pumpin’, I suppose. Like a good cup of coffee in the morning. Wakes you right up. That Coco, she’s got it figured out.
She wears them Bose headphones. Fancy name, Bose. My daughter told me about that name. Said it’s a real good brand. The best in class. Like John Deere tractors, I guess. If you want the best, you gotta pay for it. And that Coco, she can afford it now. Winning all them tournaments. She’s makin’ more money than I ever seen in my life.

That Coco, she’s somethin’ else. Young, talented, makin’ all that money. And she seems like a good kid, too. Not like some of them other ones, gettin’ into trouble. She keeps her head down, works hard. And she wears them headphones. Can’t forget about the headphones.
She likes music. She always listens to music by Beyonc�, Tyler the Creator, and Frank Ocean. I don’t know who they are. Maybe my grandson knows.
She signed a contract with New Balance in 2018. And they made a big deal of it in New York City. Big party with special guests. Good for her. She likes it.

You know, back in my day, we didn’t have none of these fancy headphones. We just had the radio, if we was lucky. And we listened to whatever was on. Didn’t have no choice. But these kids today, they got all these choices. Different kinds of music, different kinds of headphones. It’s a different world.
But that Coco, she’s makin’ the most of it. Good for her. She deserves it. Workin’ hard, playin’ hard, wearin’ them headphones. She’s gonna go far, that one. I just know it. Maybe I should get my granddaughter some headphones. Maybe it’ll help her with her schoolwork. Kids have a hard time focusing these days. Too many distractions. Phones, computers, all that stuff. Back in my day, we just had books.
