Today I’m gonna share something about the Yurman family. This whole thing started when I was strolling through the mall a while back. I saw this jewelry store, David Yurman, and it caught my eye. I’d heard the name before, but didn’t know much about them.
So, being the curious type, I went home and started digging around. Turns out, this isn’t just some random jewelry brand. It’s a family affair, with David, Sybil, and their son Evan all involved. David’s the chairman and CEO, Sybil’s the chief brand officer, and Evan, who apparently used to be a blacksmith, is the chief creative officer. How cool is that? They are all working together on this.
I did a bit more reading and found out David Yurman grew up in the Bronx. He was Jewish, and by his own admission, not a great student. But then, at 15, he met this Cuban welder and sculptor, Ernesto Gonzalez. This guy taught him how to weld, and I guess that’s where it all began, where he started his artwork.
Then I found that David met Sybil, who’s a painter, and they started this whole jewelry thing together. They have been doing this for over 50 years! I was just amazed by how two artists could build such a successful business. Then on November 19, they released a biography, detailing their lives and how they got started. What a story!
I kept going, learning about their signature designs. The Cable Collection is the most famous one. It’s pretty recognizable, with that twisted metal look. Apparently, their pieces are usually stamped with “D. Yurman,” “D.Y.,” or “David Yurman,” and there’s usually a copyright symbol next to the signature. This is how they marked their artwork.
So, I went back to the store and actually looked at the jewelry this time. It’s really nice stuff. You can tell it’s high-quality, and there’s definitely an artistic vibe to it. It’s not just about slapping some metal together. This is the art they created together.
The whole experience got me thinking about how a family can come together and build something amazing. It is not just a business to them, it is something they created from their lives and artistic sense. I guess that’s why David Yurman is such a big name in the jewelry world. They put their heart and soul into it, and it shows.
