So, I finally took the plunge and got myself a gemstone tattoo. It’s something I’d been thinking about for a long, long time, like a year or so. I mean, it’s permanent, right? Gotta be absolutely sure about it.

First thing I did was try to keep my skin as healthy as possible. I’m a big water drinker anyway, but I upped my intake even more, and made sure I kept my skin moisturized every day. It does make a difference, trust me.
Next, I spent ages, and I mean ages, trying to decide on what I wanted. I went through hundreds, maybe even thousands, of designs online. I knew I wanted something minimal, not too big or flashy, since it was my first tattoo. There are so many cool ideas for minimal gemstone tattoos, and after many days of researching, I finally found a design that I really liked.
Choosing a Tattoo Artist
Finding a good tattoo artist was the next hurdle. I asked around, checked out portfolios online, and read tons of reviews. It’s super important to find someone who’s not just talented but also hygienic and professional. I finally settled on an artist whose style I loved, and who had a spotless studio.
Placement
Then came the decision of where to put it. I must have spent hours standing in front of the mirror, holding the design up to different parts of my body, drawing it with a temporary marker. I didn’t want to regret the placement later. Some people recommended avoiding certain areas for a first tattoo, like the ribs or the inside of the upper arm, because they say it hurts like hell. I ended up choosing my wrist. It’s visible, but not too in-your-face, and I heard it’s not the most painful spot. I followed the artist’s advice and avoided alcohol and blood thinners like aspirin before my appointment.
Getting It Done
On the day of the appointment, I was a mix of excited and nervous. But I was prepared. I had all my documents ready to prove I was over 18 years old, I’d followed all the advice. The artist was super chill and walked me through the whole process. They made sure I was comfortable and that I understood how to take care of the tattoo afterward.

And you know what? It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Sure, it stung a bit, but it was totally manageable. Seeing the finished tattoo made it all worth it. It was perfect, exactly what I had envisioned.
Aftercare
- The aftercare was pretty straightforward, too.
- Just keep it clean and moisturized.
- Don’t pick at it, no matter how much it itches!
I’m so glad I finally did it. It’s a little piece of art that I get to carry with me everywhere. It represents something special to me, and it’s a reminder to always stay true to myself. If you’re thinking about getting a gemstone tattoo, or any tattoo for that matter, do your research, take your time, and find an artist you trust. It’s an awesome experience, and I’m already thinking about my next one!
