Alright, let’s talk about this Ricky Lauren stuff, or whatever it’s called. You know, that fancy-schmancy look all them rich folks wear. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I’ve seen enough pictures in them magazines at the doctor’s office to know a thing or two.

First off, it’s all about looking neat and tidy, like you’re going to church or something. But not too stuffy, you know? Like, you could go play golf right after, if you wanted to. Though, why anyone would want to chase a little white ball around a big field is beyond me. Seems like a waste of good walking time, if you ask me.
Polo shirts, that’s a big thing with this Ricky Lauren style. You know, the shirts with the little horsey on them? They’re alright, I guess. Cotton’s comfy, that’s for sure. But them prices? Highway robbery, I tell ya! You can get a perfectly good shirt at the market for a fraction of the cost. And it’ll keep you just as warm, or cool, depending on the weather.
- Sweaters, them cable-knitty ones, them’s another big deal. They look warm, gotta give ’em that. But again, the price! My grandma used to knit sweaters that were just as good, maybe better. And they lasted forever, not like this flimsy stuff they sell nowadays.
- And the pants, don’t even get me started on the pants. Khakis, they call ’em. Just plain old tan pants, as far as I can see. You can get them anywhere. Why pay extra just for a fancy name?
- Then there’s the layering. They like to put shirts under sweaters, and sometimes jackets over that. Seems like a lot of fuss to me. I just wear what’s comfortable for the weather. If it’s cold, I put on a coat. If it’s hot, I wear a dress. Simple as that.
But the real secret, I think, ain’t about the clothes themselves. It’s about how you wear ’em. You gotta look like you don’t care too much, even if you probably spent a whole paycheck on that outfit. Like you just threw it on and happened to look good. That’s the real trick, I reckon.
And don’t forget the colors. They like them blues and whites and tans, you know? Nothing too flashy. Classic, they call it. I call it boring, but hey, to each their own. My favorite color is red, like a fire engine. Now that’s a color that makes a statement!
So, how do you get this Ricky Lauren look without spending all your hard-earned money? Well, first, go through your closet. I bet you’ve already got some stuff that’ll work. A plain polo shirt, maybe a nice sweater. Just make sure it’s clean and ironed. That’s half the battle right there. My ma always said, “A clean shirt can make a king out of a pauper.” And she was right about most things, that woman was.

Then, head to the thrift store. You’d be surprised what you can find there. People get rid of perfectly good clothes all the time. Just keep an eye out for them cable-knit sweaters and khakis. And don’t be afraid to mix and match. That’s what makes it interesting, you know? Put a little bit of yourself into it. Don’t just copy what you see in the magazines.
And most importantly, don’t worry too much about it. Clothes are just clothes. They don’t make the person. It’s what’s inside that counts. That’s what my pa always said. He was a good man, my pa. Always wore the same overalls, no matter where he went. And he was the most stylish fella I knew.
So, there you have it. My take on this Ricky Lauren style. Take it or leave it. I’m just a simple woman, but I know what I like. And I like clothes that are comfortable, practical, and don’t break the bank. That’s good enough for me. And if it’s good enough for me, it’s good enough for anybody, far as I’m concerned.
In the end, it ain’t about the brand name or how much something costs. It’s about feeling good in what you’re wearing. And if a simple cotton shirt from the market makes you feel like a million bucks, then that’s all that matters. Don’t let them fancy folks tell you otherwise. They don’t know nothin’ about real style, if you ask me.
