OK, let’s talk about Shalant today. You might not have heard of it, but I stumbled upon it a while back and it’s become a bit of a thing for me.

Master Shalant: Quick and Simple Guide Here!

So, what is Shalant? I first learned about it from some designer named Emily Shalant. Seems she’s pretty well-known in some circles, having made a bunch of popular brands before starting her own thing back in 2020. I wasn’t really looking for anything new, but her story caught my eye.

I started digging around, trying to find out what this Shalant thing was all about. It wasn’t easy, to be honest. Not a lot of straightforward info out there. But I pieced together that it has something to do with “pure, timeless forms.” Sounds fancy, right? But it got me thinking about how things are designed and made, and how some things just seem to last forever, style-wise.

Getting My Hands Dirty

I decided I had to try making something inspired by Shalant. Now, I’m no designer, but I do like to tinker around. I grabbed some old wood I had lying around and started shaping it. I wanted to see if I could create something that felt… timeless. Like, if you found it in an attic 50 years from now, you wouldn’t be able to tell when it was made.

  • First, I sketched out some ideas. Nothing too complicated, just simple shapes that felt solid and balanced.
  • Then I started cutting and sanding the wood. This took a while, not gonna lie. I’m not the most skilled woodworker, but I got there eventually.
  • After the shaping was done, I spent some time just looking at it, figuring out how to finish it. I didn’t want to use any fancy varnishes or anything. Just a simple oil to bring out the natural grain of the wood.

The whole process took me a few weekends, working on and off. It wasn’t about making something perfect, more about the process of trying to capture that “timeless” feeling. It’s hard to explain, but working with my hands, focusing on the simple forms, it was kind of relaxing. Like, I was connecting with something deeper than just making a thing.

What I Learned

So, did I end up with a masterpiece? Nah. But I did end up with a wonky-looking wooden… something. It’s not pretty, but it’s mine. And it reminds me of that whole Shalant idea. I look at it now, and I don’t see the flaws (okay, maybe I see a few). I see the effort I put in, the attempt to create something that feels like it could last forever.

Master Shalant: Quick and Simple Guide Here!

This whole Shalant thing, it got me thinking about how we consume things, how we’re always chasing the next new trend. Maybe there’s something to be said for slowing down, appreciating the simple things, the things that are built to last. I don’t know if I’ll ever be a “Shalant” kind of designer, but it’s definitely changed the way I look at the world around me. And maybe, just maybe, that’s enough.

If you are interested, you should definitely try it too. It will bring you a different harvest!
