Today, I wanted to try something new with clothes, so I decided to mess around with some cotton to see if I could make something interesting. I’ve always been curious about how news articles are printed on fabric, especially cotton, which is super common in clothes.

First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. This included a plain white cotton t-shirt, some newspaper articles that I found interesting, and some tools like scissors, an iron, and a printer. I thought it would be cool to transfer the print from the newspapers onto the t-shirt.
I started by cutting out the articles I liked. Then, I placed them face down on the t-shirt where I wanted the print to be. It was a bit tricky to arrange them so they looked good and were in the right spot. I used a regular home printer to print out some digital news articles as well, just to mix things up a bit.
After arranging the newspaper and printed articles, I carefully ironed over them. I made sure the iron was set to a high temperature suitable for cotton, but not too hot to burn the fabric. The idea was to transfer the ink from the paper to the cotton using heat.
- Preparation:
- Gathered a plain white cotton t-shirt.
- Collected newspaper articles and printed some digital ones.
- Prepared tools: scissors, iron, printer.
- Execution:
- Cut out the selected articles.
- Arranged the articles face down on the t-shirt.
- Printed additional articles using a home printer.
- Transfer Process:
- Ironed over the articles with a hot iron.
- Ensured the iron was at the right temperature for cotton.
After ironing, I let the t-shirt cool down for a few minutes. Then, I slowly peeled off the papers. It was really cool to see that some of the ink had transferred to the fabric. The t-shirt now had this unique, kind of vintage look with news prints on it. It was not perfect, with some areas clearer than others, but that added to its charm. I might experiment more with different types of paper and ink in the future, I have no idea.
Reflection
This little project was a fun way to spend an afternoon. I really enjoyed seeing how everyday items like newspaper could be used creatively. It’s a simple way to customize clothes and make them one-of-a-kind. Plus, it’s kind of cool to wear something that has a story behind it, even if it’s just a DIY project.

I recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a simple and creative DIY project. It’s pretty straightforward, and you don’t need any special skills. Just some cotton fabric, a few tools, and a bit of patience. Who knows what you’ll come up with?
