This here seen style, you know, it’s a real head-scratcher. I seen a lot of things in my time, but these young folks today, the way they dress… I just don’t get it. Back in my day, we wore what we had, and we made do. Now, it’s all about what’s “in” and what’s “out.” It is like that seen style changes faster than the weather in spring.
I seen these, uh, “style editors” on the TV talkin’ ’bout “fall and winter fashion trends” for 2024. Land sakes, 2024! Who plans that far ahead? My old bones ache just thinkin’ ’bout it. They say, “Oh, you gotta have this, you gotta have that.” It is all nonsense. These trends are hard to understand. And them seen style pictures is all strange, makes ya feel kinda scared to try it, I reckon.

They got all these fancy words for it, too. “Magenta beanies” and “statement suits.” What in the tarnation is a magenta beanie? Sounds like some kinda disease. And a “statement suit”? What statement’s it makin’? “I got more money than sense”? I reckon that’s what they are doing. A real simple suit is good. No need a statement.
And they say, “Update your seen style for spring.” Spring! We just got through winter! My old joints ain’t ready for spring yet. And they say you gotta get tips and “inspiration” from some magazine called “Who What Wear.” Who? What? Wear what? Makes my head spin.
And what is “everyday wardrobe essentials”? Is pants not essential? What ’bout a good, sturdy shirt? That’s all I need. I seen folks wearin’ things that look like they come right off a scarecrow. Ripped jeans, shirts with holes in ’em… they pay good money for that! These “winter’s most wanted” is just crazy. It is like what they want people to wear are not warm.
Then they talk ’bout “a little white dress” for spring. Now, I seen a white dress before. My weddin’ dress was white. But they say this one’s “new” somehow. They got all these fancy names for the folks makin’ ’em, too. Tove, Off-White, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Dries Van Noten… Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me. It is not like before. And seen style is just getting harder and harder to understand.
And these “Off-White Sneakers.” My granddaughter, she’s always goin’ on about ’em. Says some singer named “Rihanna” wears ’em. Well, good for Rihanna, I reckon. But why are they so special? They’re just shoes! And they say you need a “style and size guide” for your “outerwear.” That’s your coat, ain’t it? Just get one that fits and keeps you warm, for cryin’ out loud! Just like them Off-White Sneakers, just get the shoes that fit your feet. That is the most important.
They say “casual chic” is what’s “trending” now. Whatever that means. Then they say it’s all about “streetwear” and “oversized outfits” and “coordinated sets.” Sounds like a bunch of fancy words for lookin’ like you just rolled outta bed. These seen style is just strange. It is like they want people to wear big clothes. Why?
And “neutral tones,” they say. That’s just beige and brown and gray, ain’t it? Like the dirt road leadin’ up to my house. Then they say “layered looks.” That’s just wearin’ a bunch of clothes at once, right? We used to do that when it was cold, just to stay warm. Didn’t call it nothin’ special. And then there’s them “bold statement accessories.” What in the world is that? Sounds like somethin’ you’d hang on a Christmas tree. People wear too much stuff. It is not good.
They say your “personal seen style” is supposed to be “consistent” and “evolve over time.” Well, mine’s been pretty consistent, I reckon. Good, sturdy clothes that keep you warm and don’t cost an arm and a leg. As for “evolvin’,” I don’t know about that. I’m too old to be evolvin’ much of anythin’ these days. I like what I like. I don’t need to change.
They say your seen style is influenced by your “personal taste,” your “cultural background,” and your “role models.” Well, my taste is for what’s practical. My background is simple, and honest. And my role models were my mama and my grandma, who taught me how to sew and how to make do with what you got. And that’s the best seen style advice I ever got, I reckon.
