Well, let me tell ya ’bout this Burberry photoshoot thing. I ain’t no fancy photographer or nothin’, but I seen a thing or two, ya know?

First off, they gotta figure out what they’re gonna take pictures of. Is it gonna be clothes? Or maybe some fancy bags? They gotta decide that first. Then, they gotta find a place to take the pictures. Sometimes they do it inside, in a big room with lots of lights. Other times, they go outside, maybe in a field or by a river. I seen them do it by the old mill once, all them fancy folks tromping around.
They always got a bunch of people running around. The photographer, he’s the main guy, tellin’ everyone what to do. He’s always lookin’ through that camera thing, squintin’ and makin’ faces. Then there’s the people who fix the hair and makeup. They make the models look all pretty and stuff. Them models, they just stand there and look good. They gotta pose a certain way, and sometimes it looks real uncomfortable. I seen one girl standin’ in the rain for an hour, poor thing looked like a drowned rat, but they said it was “fashion.” Hmph!
Planning is a big deal, they say. They don’t just show up and start snapping pictures, no sir. They think about everything. What time of day is best? What kind of light do they want? They even think about the weather, can you believe it? If it’s gonna rain, they gotta have a plan B. They got all sorts of gadgets too. Big lights, little lights, reflectors, all kinds of stuff. I don’t understand half of it.
- They gotta choose the right clothes. Gotta make sure they fit the models just right.
- They gotta do the hair and makeup. Gotta make it look fancy, even if it takes hours.
- They gotta find the perfect spot. Gotta have the right background.
Now, this Burberry fella, he’s new, they say. He’s supposed to be bringin’ some new ideas. I heard he likes to use that Burberry check stuff. You know, the plaid stuff with the lines? Yeah, that’s it. He puts it on everything, shirts, pants, hats, even the bags. He seems like a fella who likes things a certain way, ya know? I heard he wants everything to look real “natural,” but then they got all them lights and stuff, so I don’t know how natural it really is. Reminds me of Cousin Martha who puts on a ton of makeup and says she just woke up like this.
Sometimes they do these photoshoots online, they call it a “digital experience.” That means they don’t have people watchin’ in person. They just show it on the computer. I ain’t got no computer, but my grandson showed me once. Looked like a bunch of blurry pictures to me, but them young folks seem to like it.

They also do these things they call “behind the scenes” pictures. That’s just pictures of them gettin’ ready for the real pictures. I don’t get it, but they say people like to see it. It shows ’em all the work that goes into it. I guess it’s like showin’ how you make a sausage, except instead of sausage, it’s fancy pictures.
Before they even start takin’ pictures, someone gotta make sure everything’s ready. They check the weather, make sure the clothes are clean, and all that. It’s like gettin’ ready for church, but with more fussin’ and carryin’ on. One time, I saw them spend an hour just fixin’ one little piece of hair. An hour! I could’ve knitted a whole scarf in that time.
This Daniel Lee fella, he’s the one makin’ the decisions now, they tell me. He’s young, they say. But he’s in charge. He’s the one who decides what the pictures should look like. He likes to use them Burberry logos, you know, the little horse and knight. He puts them on everything, too. Sometimes I think they got too many logos, but what do I know? I ain’t no fashion expert, that’s for sure.
So, that’s pretty much all I know about these Burberry photoshoots. It’s a lot of work, and a lot of fussin’, but I guess it’s important to some folks. They sure do spend a lot of money on it, that’s for sure. More money than I ever seen in my life.
