Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with making jewelry lately, just as a hobby, you know? And I got this idea to try and make a gem brooch. Sounds fancy, right? Well, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, and I actually managed to pull it off.

First, I went online and started looking at all kinds of brooches. There are so many different styles out there! I saw some that were all sparkly with tons of little gems, some that were more simple with just one big stone, and some that were shaped like flowers or animals. Clicked around a bunch of websites, just browsing through pictures and getting ideas.

My design

  • Chose a design that was kind of in between – not too plain, but not too over-the-top either.
  • Decided I wanted it to be a mix of different colored gems, because why not, right?

Then came the fun part – picking out the gems! I found this shop that sells all kinds of beads and stones, and I spent like an hour in there just looking at everything. They had so many colors and shapes! I finally settled on a few different ones that I thought looked good together. I grabbed some that were kind of blue-ish, some that were pink, and a couple of clear ones to add some sparkle. I also picked up some wire and a brooch pin backing.

Next, I had to figure out how to put it all together. I laid out the gems on a piece of felt to see how they would look. I moved them around a bunch until I was happy with the arrangement. Once I had a design I liked, I started wrapping the wire around the gems to hold them in place.

This part was a little tricky, I’m not gonna lie. It took some practice to get the wire to cooperate, but I eventually got the hang of it. After all the gems were wired together, I attached the brooch pin backing to the back of the wire frame, and that was it!

Honestly, I was pretty surprised at how well it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely something I’m proud of. I even wore it on my jacket the other day, and I got a couple of compliments on it! It’s kind of cool to think that I made something that people actually like. Now I’m thinking about what to make next. Maybe a necklace? Or some earrings? The possibilities are endless!
