Alright, let’s talk about this… this… “Mon-sure L,” whatever that means. Sounds fancy, like somethin’ them city folks would say. I ain’t no fashion expert, mind you. I just wear what keeps me warm and covered, ya know? But I heard some things, seen some things on that there picture box, and I’ll tell ya what I reckon.

So, this Mon-sure L, he’s all about shoes, I think. Man shoes, but maybe for women too? They say it’s “classic,” which I guess means they look like somethin’ your grandpa mighta worn, but maybe…better? I dunno. They got this “L” on ’em, real quiet-like. Not flashy, but you know it’s there. Like a secret handshake or somethin’. This fella, Alain Lay-ber, he’s the brains behind it all. Fancy name, huh?
Now, they talk about “fashion icons” and all that jazz. I ain’t sure what an icon is, but I guess it’s someone important. Like that Coco Chanel woman. French, they say. Heard she made clothes for women that weren’t all tight and stuffy. Let ‘em breathe a little, ya know? That’s important, lettin’ folks breathe. And this other fella, Saint… Saint somethin’. He put colored women on them walkin’ shows, the ones where skinny girls strut around like chickens. That was a big deal, I hear, ‘cause not everyone was doin’ that back then.
This Saint fella, he got all sorts of awards. Lifetime somethin’-or-other. Means he was good at what he did, I guess. Real good. They even got books about these folks, picture books, mind you, ‘cause I ain’t readin’ no big words. They show you how these designers, they lived their lives, how they changed things up, how they made people look…different.
- So, this Mon-sure L, he’s tryin’ to do somethin’ similar, I reckon.
- He’s takin’ old-timey shoes and makin’ ‘em new again.
- He’s tryin’ to be… classic, but also modern. I think that’s what they call it.
It’s like takin’ your grandma’s old quilt and makin’ a fancy jacket out of it. Same idea, just…fancier. And more expensive, I bet. Lord knows how much them city folk pay for shoes with a little “L” on ‘em. Probably more than I make in a whole month!
But I get it, sort of. People like to feel special. They like to wear things that make ‘em stand out, or maybe fit in, dependin’ on what they’re after. And if Mon-sure L can make ‘em feel that way, well, good for him. He’s just doin’ his job, I guess.

Fashion, they say, is always changin’. What’s hot today is cold tomorrow. But some things, they stick around. Like that Chanel woman, people still talk about her. And maybe, just maybe, this Mon-sure L, he’ll be one of them too. Maybe years from now, folks will be sayin’, “Remember them shoes with the ‘L’? Those were somethin’ special.”
Or maybe not. Maybe it’s all just a bunch of hooey. But it’s somethin’ to talk about, ain’t it? Somethin’ to think about when you’re out there in the fields, workin’ your hands to the bone. Makes you wonder what them city folk are up to, with their fancy shoes and their fancy talk. But hey, to each their own, I always say. As long as you’re comfortable, and you can breathe, that’s all that matters. And maybe, just maybe, if you got a little extra cash, you can buy yourself a pair of them Mon-sure L shoes. Just don’t tell me how much they cost!
