Today, I felt a sudden urge to dig into the life of John F. Kennedy Jr. You know, the son of the former president, often called JFK Jr. or “John-John” by some. I just wanted to piece together what he was like growing up and the major events in his life.
So, I started by looking up his birthdate. Turns out, he was born on November 25, 1960. Right away, that got me thinking about his dad, John F. Kennedy, who himself was born back in 1917. It’s kinda wild to think about the legacy he was born into.
Then I stumbled upon some articles about JFK’s childhood in Brookline, before he became the 35th president. It seems like little John was quite the character, always getting into something, a real spirited kid. This just made me more curious about JFK Jr.’s own upbringing.
- Found some iconic photos of JFK Jr. as a young boy. One of them showed him playing around, and the caption called him “John-John.” That nickname is so familiar, yet seeing the actual picture made it feel more real.
- Read that JFK Jr., or “Jack” as his family called him, was often sick as a child. He even nearly died from scarlet fever when he was just two. Can you imagine?
- Despite his health issues, he loved sports but was apparently more into reading. They say he was super smart and witty, with this charming personality.
I kept digging, and this is where things got a bit heavier. I learned about this podcast episode that talked about JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette’s marriage. It’s been 25 years since they tragically died in a plane crash. I can still hardly wrap my head around that.
The investigation report from the NTSB said the crash was due to the pilot’s “failure to maintain control of the airplane during a descent over water at night, which was the result of spatial disorientation.” It also mentioned that haze and the dark night were contributing factors. It’s just so sad to think about how things could have been different.
This whole deep dive really hit me. Learning about JFK Jr.’s life, from his playful childhood to the tragic end, was a lot to take in. It really makes you think about how unpredictable life can be and the impact someone can have, even if their time is cut short.
